FedEx, Amazon, and THE BRIDE.

11May

Have you ever stumbled on a realization that changes the way you understand what you’re looking at? And when you see it, it’s impossible to “unsee”?

(Like finding the arrow in the FedEx logo - between the E and the X; or the smiley face in the Amazon logo; or the bear that is hidden in the Toblerone logo)

That happened to me last week while I was preparing my message for Sunday. It turns out that what I thought was just a cute, fairly insignificant metaphor is actually one of the biggest parts of the story of Christ and His Church.

It turns out that when Paul used the metaphor of the “bride of Christ” he wasn’t just pulling a metaphor out of thin air to prove his point. Paul was actually drawing on a metaphor that permeates the entire story of the Bible -  but our modern day understanding of marriage and weddings prevents us from seeing it clearly.

It turns out that the story of the Bible - and the story of our lives - is the story of God's pursuit of His bride, entering into a covenant relationship with His Bride, and the day when He comes back for His bride and we'll be together “face to face”.

Once you see it, you won’t be able to unsee it.
