Best Churches In Denver

Denver's not known for its churches - quite the opposite - unless you mean "the church" club downtown or the International church of Cannabis, which is a different experience altogether. That said, there are INCREDIBLE churches all throughout the Denver Metro area if you know where to look.

Recently, some members of our church had a special need arise in their family. In talking with the family, our pastoral team agreed that this family (our friends!) would best be supported with a different church that had the ministries already in place that would be able to support them. In helping them search for a new church I, Pastor David (PD), got to look at the churches in our city with fresh eyes. What I found was amazing, and I want to share my findings with you so you can find a church that fits what you and your family are looking for.

If you're looking for more than "Yelp" can offer, here are some of the best churches in Denver that I have had the opportunity to visit, hear about, or I personally have a relationship with the pastor(s). If Hope Valley isn’t your cup of tea, I’m willing to bet you can find one among these churches.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am David Hermes, the Lead Pastor of Hope Valley Church. Hope Valley is my favorite church in the world and to that end, I count myself very blessed. There are a lot of pastors who only tolerate the church where they serve, but I have found a home with and among the people of Hope Valley. We're a very diverse and growing church. I'm going to put Hope Valley at the top of this list, then I'll go alphabetically from there.

I don't know everything about these churches, and in some cases I don't agree with everything that I do know. But I'm confident of this, God is using these churches to accomplish remarkable things all around the Denver Metro. As you look for a church to call home - the best churches are the ones that love God and love people, they preach the Gospel, they're committed to spiritual formation (discipleship). I'm realizing that I should write a follow up that describes what to look for - stay tuned for that one. In the meantime, here are my top recommendations for churches in the Denver Metro Area.

BEST CHURCHES IN DENVER METRO

Hope Valley Church - We set out to establish a church that looks like heaven in its love for God, diversity of people and our impact on the city... and God is doing it! You're already on our website, so you can check out our team if you're interested in learning more. We're a growing church and we have growth opportunities for people of all ages. We meet downtown so every kind of person can be comfortable. Like Hamilton (Lin-Manuel Miranda), we're young, scrappy and hungry and we're not throwing away our shot to honor God and transform the city one life at a time. We'd love for you to join us.

Beacon Church - No person loves the city of Denver more than Pastor CB. He was one of the first pastors I met when I moved to the city and all he wanted to know is whether or not I was ready to love Denver like he loves Denver. He's got a fire in his belly to see the city transformed. They also meet downtown and our city is all the better for it! Yes, I ended that sentence with a preposition. I do it a lot.)

Colorado Community Church - Colorado Community Church is a well established "intercultural and interdenominational" church in Aurora. They are a large church that stewards their energy and effort well including the careful stewardship of a call to pursue reconciliation and healing among different ethnicities in the US.

Echo City Church - Echo City Church is a newish and growing church in Thornton. Pastor Joel is a great friend and loves people with his whole heart. I love to hear him talk about his people and his vision for EchoCity. I visited on a Sunday and was stirred by their eagerness to meet with God and one another. Pastor Joel is passionate about lives being deeply transformed by the love of God - not just doing church.

Highway Community Church - Steve and Missy Crowder are two of the most hospitable people I have ever met. They exude pastoral grace - you’ve heard the phrase “power couple”- they are that and more. They are a “pastor couple” and they have established a church where it's safe to grow in Jesus in whatever stage of life you are in. (

Journey Point Church - Journey point has 2 locations - one in the Northfield Shopping Center and one at Riverside Church. They love Denver and as the name implies, they're eager to walk with you no matter where you are in your journey of knowing God. Our kids go to school together, and I respect the heck out of their family.

LifeGate Church - I've never met Pastor Nirup, but we have mutual friends who love and respect him and his leadership. So I do, too. They meet in the DTC area but have influence all over the city. The first time I heard of them was on a list of churches who made significant donations to a ministry that serves the poor - I don't know that there's a better first impression than that.

MileHigh Vineyard - The Vineyard Churches have 5 locations in the Denver Metro Area. Their founding Pastor, Jay Pathak, wrote a book titled "The Art of Neighboring" that informs their relationship to one another and the city. Worth a read if you're trying to figure out how to make a difference in your neighborhood. They describe themselves as "a family of neighborhood churches" which, I believe, captures their heart for seeing the city transformed by reaching our neighbors through acts of love (my words, not theirs).

Park Church- Park Church is affiliated with Acts 29. Pastor Gary has a heart to see the people of God join into the mission of God and he's committed to seeing this accomplished in and through Park Church. In recent years, Gary has led their church to press into the Holy Spirit and grow in efforts to become a more diverse worshipping community. In my times with Gary, I found him to be authentic, passionate and earnest for the things of God. He's the kind of man I would love to have as a pastor.

Restoration Church - Pastor Ron leads this church with a high octane, faith-filled team thats ready change the world. When you come on a Sunday, you're going to get invited to a "Simple Church" meeting that focuses on growing in Jesus through obedience based discipleship - an invitation to consider if you're serious about growing in your relationship with Jesus.

Resilience Church - This is the only non-traditional church on this list. If you are skeptical about large Sunday gatherings, but want to encounter Jesus and make a difference in the world with your gifts, this very well may be the right place for you. Pastor Danielle Reeves is a gifted leader who has an incredibly gracious presence so and I'm confident that in the coming years this ministry will grow and have a profound impact on our city. Denver and the kingdom of heaven are better off because of her vision of and for ministry.

The Pearl Church- Pastors Doug and Donna Lasit are a special couple and they are leading a special Church in the Cherry Creek area. They pastor a lot of pastors which speaks to their love for the kingdom. Like any church (regardless of size) they can't grow for you, but they've created an environment where anyone can grow. I've personally been blessed by them, and I know you could be, too.

Victory Church (Westminster) - This is a large church with lots of ministries. I have a really good friend who calls Victory his home church and I would gladly be a part of a church like this. In the few times I've been around them, they have been consistently passionate about making disciples and missions - just like us! That's probably why I like them so much.

Thanks for making our city great by choosing to be a part of one of the many churches that are here. I hope to see you Sunday!
